Frank Edgar, of Waverley, had more than 14,000 pots of lilies for Easter, all of which sold. He has a fine stock of bedding plants coming along, also an ex- cellent house of sweet peas. Of cycla- mens and winter-flowering begonias he has a large stock. Anderson Bros., of Woburn, are cut- ting quantities of superb Yarrawa sweet peas, with 18-inch stems. Eose Queen, White Orchid and Mrs. Skach are also good. They also have a fine crop of calendulas, callas and snapdragons. Eobert T. McGorum, of Natick, is well known as a rose specialist. In addition he now is growing carnations of grand quality. Matchless stands three and one-half feet in height. The old Winsor is splendid, over three feet in height. Fine also are Benora, Beacon, Pink De- light and White Wonder. Eichmond proves a more profitable red rose than either Hadley or Hoosier Beauty. Ophelia and the Killarneys are also good. Mr. McGorum has a house of fine giant candytuft coming on for Memorial day. The war situation and the urgent ad- vice to grow more good crops has not been lost on florists. Many of these will increase their outdoor plantings of po- tatoes and other staples, and houses of vegetables will be more numerous. The great drawbacks are the scarcity and cost of labor, prices of seed potatoes, which are again soaring, and shortage of suitable fertilizers. Many private es- tates are breaking
