The Ayuntamiemto the Town Hall in the Parque Cespedes, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba


Santiago de Cuba is the second city of Cuba on the south east coast ,based around a deep water bay. The city was established in 1515 by Diego Velazquez de Cuellar, In 1898 Santiago was the centre of a war of independence against the Spanish and this was here the intervened with Teddy Rooseveldt’s Rough Riders. Santiago played a prime role in the 1950’s in the uprisings against the Baptista government. Fidel Castro chose Santiago for his debut battle in 1953 when he and a small band of supporters attacked the Moncada barracks Parque Cespedes,originally the Plaza de Armas was the first square laid out in the town
