Miss Sarah Anne Clarke, a holiday visitor from Liverpool, opened an appeal in 1851. The nave, short chancel, porch and baptistery were built in 1852-3, by North and South aisles were added in 1861 and 1867 by of Liverpool. In 1875 the chancel was lengthened, with a new organ chamber. The West porch is dated 1904. In 1912 a total rebuild was contemplated but war intervened. Instead and not until 1932-3, the East end was rebuilt with a new polygonal apsed chancel and South East chapel by Austin and Paley. There is a triple-gabled exterior with a bell-turret of 1853.
