Leonard, of the Leonard Seed Co., Chicago, is home from a brief visit to the woods of northern Wisconsin. It is said that a large percentage of the onion set crops at Chicago already has been sold into second, third and fourth hands. It looks as though the war will result in valley pips commanding unusual prices for several years after the return of peace. It is reported that one Chicago opera- tor in onion sets, a man not often heard of by the trade in general, cleaned up $100,000 in the last season. The opinion seems to be spreading that seed supplies for 1918, as a whole, will be far shorter than they were this season. Only an unusually good crop can relieve the condition. The acreage of onion sets at Chicago is thought to considerably exceed that of 1916, and the condition of the crops at the beginning of June was decidedly better than a year ago, but the market is firm. The Page-Clark Seed & Nursery Co., of Billings, Mont., has been reorganized to carry on a larger business, the newly elected officers being H. H. Hortman, J. W. Shea and R. C. Dillavou.
