Temple of Poseidon at Sunium

A marble temple dedicated to the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon, was erected about 440 on the promontory of Sunium at the southermost point of the region of Attica. It stood about 300 feet above the sea. Today, only some of its columns and base remain. This illustration by Jules Guerin dates to about 1900.
