Liver cancer. Coloured coronal computed tomography (CT) scan through the chest and abdomen of a patient with cancer of the liver. The liver is at lower left, with normal liver tissue in dark red. The cancer is a lighter orange within the liver. The cancer is a hepatocellular carcinoma of the right lobe of the liver. The malignant tumour has spread into the liver's right portal vein. Cancer cells divide in an uncontrolled fashion and migrate to invade other tissues. Treatment is with surgery if the cancer is still localised, and chemotherapy and radiotherapy if it has spread. The heart (orange) and lungs (blue) are also visible across top.
