Tornado destruction, satellite image. North is at top. Early on 27 April 2014, intense storms in this region around Lake Conway (lower left), Arkansas, USA, producing a powerful EF4 tornado (wind speeds of 267-322 kilometres per hour). From around 19:00 local time, the tornado cut a 66-kilometre swath of destruction (brown trail) from lower left diagonally up to top right. It passed through the small towns of Mayflower (south end of lake) and Vilonia (upper right). Sixteen people were killed and 400 to 500 homes were destroyed. Image obtained on 2 May 2014 by the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) on NASA's Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite.
