Detail of sanctuary ring, ribs & iron studs on original C15th wooden door to the S nave of St Saeran's Church, Llanynys, Denbighshire, Wales, UK. By medieval Church law a fugitive was able to seek temporary sanctuary from persecution inside a church after touching a sanctuary ring, door-knocker or bell. The door also bears graffiti dated March 17 1598, January XXIII (23) 1599, & April V (5) 1602.
