Slave Galleries, St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, are behind the windowed walls in rear of both sides of the balcony area of the church.


St. Augustine's Episcopal Church and the slave galleries were built in 1828. Although slavery had been abolished in New York State the year before, the galleries provided segregated seating for African Americans for many decades. They are situated in the balcony behind walls with high windows that hid those seated in the galleries from the view of those in the pews below.
