Stomach cancer. Endoscopic view of stomach (gastric) cancer of the intestinal type. Intestinal type cancers are so-called as they show a marked resemblance to cancers of the colon (large intestine). The tumours (right) are adenocarcinomas, a type of cancer arising from glandular epithelial tissue. Stomach cancer is the fourth most common cancer worldwide. Several risk factors are thought to be involved including poor diet, smoking, and Helicobacter pylori (bacterial) infection.
