Deception of Captain Wallis by Queen Oberea, 1820-1839. Scene from Samuel Wallis's voyage of circumnavigation in HMS 'Dolphin', undertaken from 1766-1768. Wallis is pictured at Tahiti, watched by the island's queen, Oberea. Wallis is believed to have been the first European to visit Tahiti, which he sighted on 18th June 1767.
