Most authors ap-pear to consider that caries is a necessary sequence of perichondria!inflammation ; but this is certainly incorrect, for in not a few cases theinflammation terminates in resolution with more or less thickening andfunctional impairment, but without caries or separation of any j)ortionof the cartilages (Lennox Browne).
