Shay to be of the stuff ofwhich lawyers of national prominence aremade. As it is he must be set down as amongthe foremost practitioners of the city andcounty. On the iniblic side of his career thereis little to be chronicled. He has been too busypracticing law to make himself a place in thejniblic eye, but ho has built up a practice singlehanded and unaided in his few years of servicethat is equaled by no other office in Streatorhaving only one practitioner. Shay. ling days, when most young lawyers are wontto call in the assistance of county seat lawyers,young Shay went it alone, and succeeded orfailed on his own merits. He .succeeded oftenertlian he failed; because of his indefatigablejiower for work, and his ability for seeing bothsides of his case. Wlien he won his clientscame again and brought others; and even thosewhom he defeated came to him when againneeding legal services. And so without adven-titious aids, by sheer force of brains and indus-try, he has made for himself a place at theforefront of the bar. Arthur H.
