William was a man of siihstantial virtues in all the relations ofHfe, and hig-hly esteemed both in his native and adopted wife was no less respected for her corresponding- worth. Hed. in Jan. 1844. Barhara Bucklin, b. in Attleboro, Mass.,dr. of Elijah Bucklin, and sister of Mary, wife of William. Thedates of her birth and of the marriag-e not ascertained. No they adopted Maturin [146], son of William and Mary (Buck-lin) Ballou, when he was eight years of age, l)rouglit him up, andmade him their heir. This adopted son who was designated insome instruments J/s, in others Maturin Ballou, ^rZ, m. SarahHawkins Oct. 16, 1820, us already stated. Maturin made a Will April 27, 1821; l)ut in Oct. 1826, wasbereaved of his wife. On account of this change in his circum-stances, or for other reasons, we find that, on the 10th of , he deeded his homestead of 125 acres with all its l)uilding-sto his nephew, styled Maturin Ballou 2d, for the consideration of 64 REBECCA AND 8ARAH BALLOW.
