Mr. Read was born on Long Island, January 12, 1841, a son of Wilson andCornelia (Bennett) Read; the former was a native of Scotland, and in his life theson manifested many of the sterling characteristics of his Scotch ancestry. Uponthe home farm he was reared and throughout his business career he carried on agri-cultural pursuits. He was regarded as one of the most thorough, pain-taking,practical and progressive farmers of the township.
