My great 1900 introduction. A few years ago I found growing in one of our fields of Cros- by's Egyptian, a single beet that at once attracted my attention. I was much struck with the beauty and apparent extra earliness, it being a good-sized beet of H lb., while the Crosby's were just beginning to form a bulb. I immediately placed a stake beside it and watclied it throughout the season. I de- cided I had found a wonderful Extra Early Beet. I planted it the uext spring and saved the seed thus produced; this was 5 years ago. I have continued saving seed every year since from this small beginning, and now have suf- ficient to offer my customers in small quantities, what I consider by far the earliest, finest qual- ity, and handsomest shaped beet now offered. A selection from Early Egyptian, retains the earliness of the parent stock, desirable shape; the deepest red in color, of finer quality than the Egyptian, being sweet- er, more tender, and smoother. Desirable sort for small beets for early market, a very rapid grower. EDMAND'S EXTRA-EARLY TURNIP.
