On the east side of William Street, a DdmomcoSfew doors south of Fulton, John Del-monico opened a dingy little bake shopin 1823, acted as chef and waiter, andbuilt up the name and business whichto-day is synonymous with good 1832 he removed to 23 WilliamStreet. Burned out there in 1835, hesoon opened on a larger scale with his 25 NOOKS AND CORNERS brother at William and Beaver Streets}on which site is still an establishmentunder the Delmonico name. In timehe set up various places—at ChambersStreet and Broadway; Fourteenth Streetand Fifth Avenue; Twenty-sixth Streetand Broadw
