Incisional hernia. Bulge in the abdomen of a 76 year old man due to an incisional hernia. A hernia is the protrusion of an organ or tissue (in this case, the intestines) through an abnormal opening. This hernia has arisen from a weakness caused by a surgical incision for a stoma after removing a colon cancer. A stoma is an opening in the abdomen that part of the intestine was connected to in order to have its contents collected by a disposable bag. Treatment is with pushing the intestines back through the wall and repairing the opening in it.
