Bright yellow and white fishing boat in Mevagissey Harbour, Cornwall, England. A clear, blue sky on a sunny day

Taken in Mevagissey Harbour, Cornwall, England. UK. Mevagissey is a traditional Cornish fishing village on the South Coast of Cornwall about 5 miles south of St Austell. Mevagissey is a working fishing village with an inner and outer harbour, complete with a fleet of small fishing boats. During the 17th century the fishermen used to make their living from pilchards and smuggling. Many of the buildings around the harbour were connected with the sea, ranging from boat builders, coopers, fish merchants and warehouses. The inner harbour dates back to 1774, and the outer harbour to 1888. However the outer harbour walls were washed away in the storms of the great blizzard in March 1891. They were rebuilt and completed in 1897.
