Blue sky cityscape portrait to Zlota 44 skyscraper and Office Lumen, from Palace of Culture and Science Observation Deck, Warsaw
The Palace of Culture and Science (Palac Kultury i Nauki, abbreviated PKiN), including a 43 m high spire, is the tallest building in Poland and, at 231 m (758 ft), the eighth tallest building in the EU. Built 1952-1955, it was conceived as 'gift from the Soviet people to the Polish nation'. It is a mix of Stalinist architecture, Polish architectural elements and inspirations from American art deco skyscrapers. The Observation Terrace on the 30th floor, at a height of 114 m, gives excellent panoramic views of the city, here looking south-west towards modern office buildings rising above Communist-era apartments. In the centre background rises the Warta Tower, an 82 m high, 22-storey skyscraper, built 1998-2000. Left background rises the Millennium Plaza, a 28-storey, 112 m high office building completed in 1999. Left foreground stands the crescent-shape Office Lumen retail and leisure building. In the right foreground rises the 44 Zlota Street 192 m high, 52 storeys residential skyscraper, designed by Polish-born, American architect, Daniel Libeskind. With 287 apartments, it is the third tallest building in Poland.
