Homo erectus skull. View of a fossilised skull of an early human (Homo erectus). Despite being less than 12 years old, this boy was already 168 cm in height. Homo erectus, or erect man, lived between roughly million years ago and originated in Africa. They were the first humans to leave Africa, reaching Asia and possibly southern Europe. H. erectus had prominent brow ridges and a projecting face. This skull, dated at million years old, is part of a skeleton that was found in Nariokotome in Kenya in 1984. It is in an exhibition by Nordstar and was photographed at the Naturkundemuseum in Stuttgart, Germany.
