The Norse god Thor fights Hrungnir, a jotunn or giant, and slays him with his hammer.
In Norse mythology, Thor was the god of thunder, and thus the god of might and war. The son of Odin, he had a magical hammer named Mjollnir that returned to him, a belt of stength, and iron gloves. His chariot was pulled by two goats—Tanngrisni ("gap-tooth" ) and Tanngnost ("tooth grinder"). In this 1905 illustration, Thor fights Hrungnir, a jotunn or giant, and slays him with his hammer. Hrungnir had thrown a whetstone at Thor, which Thor's hammer had smashed ot pieces. Thor then throws his hammer at Hrungnir. The battle occurred after Hrungnir had gone to Valhalla after losing a bet with Odin. At Valhalla Hrungnir gets abusive and the gods have Thor battle him.
