FRANKLIN -WELDON LENGTH OF SERVICE, 50 YEARS 6 MONTHS Franklin Weldon was born in Philadelphiaon August 13, 1846, and was educated in thepublic schools. After leaving school, and beforeentering thessrvice of the Pennsylvania Railroad,he had considerable experience in iron and brassmoulding, core making and sheet iron work. He entered the service of the PennsylvaniaRailroad in the old West Philadelphia Shops,near Spring Garden Street, on February 15, 1866,under Louis C. Brastow, Master Mechanic, asSheet Iron Workers Helper. On the opening ofthe present West Philadelphia Shops, in April,1866, he was transferred JOHN J. A. BOYDEN FRANKLIN WELDON On February 1, 1867, Mr. Weldon was madeSheet Iron Worker, and on March 1,1896, he wasappointed Assistant Foreman of the Boiler also did all the clerical work for a number ofyears. At the time of the organization of the Penn-sylvania Railroad Relief Department Mr. Wel-don was one of the representatives of the men inDistrict No. 1 who conferred with the officials ofthe Company in framing the Regulations of the Relief Department, so as to make them mostsatisfactory and beneficial to the employes. Mr. Weldon remained in the position of Assist-ant Foreman until he was placed on the Rollof Honor, September 1, 1916.
