The combined Polish and Lithuanian forces under King Wladyslaw II Jagiello, defeated the army of Teutonic Knights killing their grand master, Ulrich von Jungingen, and so regained northern Poland. With an estimated 70,000 troops involved, it was reputedly the largest medieval battle in Europe.
