Kievan prince Vladimir the Saint Equal-to-Apostles baptized Kievan Rus in 988. Figure of Vladimir the Saint is the part of a bas-relief 'The Enlighteners of Russia' which is the work of sculptors Matvey Chizhov and Mikhail Mikeshin. The Monument to the Millennium of Russia was created by sculptor Mikhail Mikeshin in 1864 and erected in Novgorod Kremlin, on the place were according the legend the mythological Varangian prince Rurik (also known as Riurik) took the power over the Russian tribes in 864. Rurik was the first ruler of Kievan Rus and the founder of the Rurik Dynasty.
