Invented more than 2,000 years ago, gears are combinations of several wheels with teeth of one wheel fit into the teeth of another wheel. As the first wheel turns, it transfers its motion or power to the next wheel, and so on. Gears today are used in many different devices, including door handles, locks, bicycles, clocks, and watches.
