Large white butterfly (Peiris brassicae) larval spiracle, coloured scanning electron micrograph, (SEM). Air diffuses into the spiracle and circulates around the butterfly larva's body in a network of tubes called tracheae. Waste gases then exit through the spiracles much like bellows. Magnification x295 at 10cm wide.
