Composite image of the spiral galaxy NGC 1097. This image was obtained by combining exposures taken in three different wavebands, each associated to a given colour: R-band (red), V (green) and B (blue). The result is a very near representation of the galaxy's true colours. Imaged with the multi-mode VIMOS instrument on the Melipal (Unit Telescope 3) of the European Southern Observatory's (ESO) Very Large Telescope, on the night of December 9th to 10th 2004.
