Ong was the tirst settler in Victoria township, locating four mileswest of the present site of the village of Anselmo in the summer of 1879. Thenext settler was James Lindle3% who came in the fall of 1880. Henry Heinyand Thomas B. Russell were the next to locate west of Anselmo, which theydid in 1883, moving their families the year following. In the fall of 1883 cameJoseph and Alvin Adkins, with their brothers, Morris, John and Calvin, andGranville Dishman, a brother-in-law, and William M. Dixon, who all tookclaims in the vicinity. Ira and Rolla Foster, Daniel B. Allen and SamuelRyan came in the spring of 1884, with AYalter Scott a little later the sameyear, and Harvey Said in 1885. Nearly all of these settlers made the home ofJames Lindley their headquarters until they got their own buildings readyto live in. James Lindley came to Custer county in August, 1880, locating upon thenorthwest quarter of section 17, township 19, range 22, where he is stillliving. H
