Fontainebleau, Cour des Cuisines

The view taken in 1828, shows the Cour des Cuisines of the Palace of Fontainebleau. It is next in size to the Cour de Cheval Blanc and is approached from the town of Fontainebleau by the Place d’Armes. The court was erected by Henry IV. On the right is the Porte Dauphin through which it communicates with the Cour d‘Honneur. The palace is situated in a forest region outside Paris. Its main features are credited to Francis I and the architect Prematiccio. Additional features were added by Henry IV, Louis XIII, Louis XIV and Louis XV. It contains four palaces and five courts. Napoleon spent vast resources on maintaining the palace and erected the Gallery of Diana. Henry III was born in the palace. Pope Pius VII lived in the palace and Napoleon abdicated in the palace.
