One ofthe earlysettlers of Southern California, William is remembered in the citizenship of thestate and held in high esteem for the qualities ofcharacter he displayed during his residence inthis section. He was born in Boone county, Mo.,in 1843, ^ SOI of John W. and Sarah (Beattie)Snoddy, both of whom were natives of the samestate. He was reared on the home farm untilthirteen years old, when his mother died, and hethen became dependent upon his own finally became a clerk in a store in St. Joseph,Mo., and remained in this connection until 1864,when he crossed the plains to California. Helocated in Sacramento for the period of one year,after which he went to San Jose and began trad-ing between that city and
