Miss Carpenter was con- nected with the Washington Florists' Co. for something over four years. A letter received from J. A. Fhilipps tells of the beauties of Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. Philipps has just reached that city from Dayton, O., where he has been for several months. One of the most attractive window displays seen in Washington for some time has been devised by Mr. Lauscher for Z. D. Blackistone. This is a Hal- lowe'en display. The color scheme is yellow and black. Two tripods in the foreground, one of tree branches, th« other of brooms, support pumpkins con- taining yellow and bronze chrysanthe- mums and winter berries. The back of the window has been turned into ti large house of cornstalks, and through the door may be seen Old Mother Goose riding aloft on her broom, her old black cat with the arched back and two grotesquely cut pumpkins. These revolve so that but one may be seen at a time through the doorway. Cabbages decorated with berries and small mums are at either side of the window, and small paper pumpkin jack-o'-lanterns, electrically lighted, and yellow chrys- anthemums, large and small, complete the display, which is a most cr
