Vintage photo of American boxer James J Jeffries being introduced to the crowd prior to the famous “Fight of the Century” with Jack Johnson for the World Heavyweight Championship. The bout took place at Reno, Nevada, on July 4 1910 and Jeffries was soundly beaten – the fight was stopped in the 15th round after Jeffries was knocked down for the first time in his career. The previously undefeated Jeffries (1875 – 1953), nicknamed “The Boilermaker”, had come out of retirement for the fight, having previously held the world heavyweight crown from 1899 to 1905.
