From Durango, the metropolis of the San Juan, to Silverton the scenery isof surpassing grandeur and beauty. The railroad follows up the course of theAnimas River (to which the Spaniards gave the musical but melancholy titleof Rio de las Animas Ferdidas, or River of Lost Souls), until the pictur-esque mining town of Silverton is reached.
