TheSociety has instituted an annual competi-tion under the rules of which certificatesare awarded by the Council to the workadjudged to be the most meritorious in eachof five classes, and a small money premiumis given in addition. The works submittedmust be studies of any kind of animal fromlife, and subject to this condition they neednot be made at the Societys gardens inDublin. The classes into which the com-petition is divided comprise sculpture,drawing and painting, and decorative de-signs embodying animal motives, and twoclasses are reserved for competitors undereighteen.
