This species, which is the type of the genus, is distinguished frommpst other duikers by its large size, coupled with its blackish colouring,and the presence of a yellowish crest on the back and a similarlycoloured longitudinal patch on the rump. Height at shoulder, 34inches. The Rhodesian form of the species has been namedC. coxi, and the Ituri yellow-backed duiker has also received a name, butneither appears entitled to rank even as a distinct race.
