Gibraltar - 7th March - Nathan Payas recieved the first of the Special Awards from athlete Chris Walker. Nathan Payas swam the English Channel in the fastest time recorded for those who swam it in 2016. Clocking under 10 hours. The GBC Sports Awards 2016, held at Brunos at Ocean Village and broadcast live brought about tears and joy. The winner for the Senior individual was Joelle Moreno who has excelled in three sports basketball, netball and football. All of which she played for the national team. The Lifetime award went to Freddy Chappory who in 1987 convinced the Islands Games Association that Gibraltar should be considered an island so that it could enter the Island Games.
