While many of them, influenced PARTISAN WARFARE. 21 by fear or interest, turned a deaf ear to the demandsof patriotism and joined the royal standard, the sonsof Mrs. Jackson ranged themselves under the banner oftheir country, and staked their lives and their all inthe struggle for liberty. Their natural ardour, andattachment to the American cause, was not a littleincreased by the remembrance of the injuries sufferedby their ancestors; and to their zeal for freedom wasadded a deep and abiding detestation of British ty-ranny.
