Autologous blood transfusion during surgery. Autologous blood transfusion is the collection and re-infusion of a patient's own blood during a surgical procedure. In this case it is being carried out because the patient is a Jehovah's Witness and so believes the Bible prohibits the storage and transfusion of blood. The use of autologous transfusion is not acceptable to all Jehovah's Witnesses.
