This latter point is very. Fig. 02. important, and considerable patience and care arerequired before the pupil attains the ability to form 120 PRACTICAL BOOKBINDING. a good square joint. To ensure success, place a pieceof clean paper over the joint, and by the aid of a folderand the thumb or finger, rub up and down the jointuntil the end paper thoroughly adheres. Whenrubbing down the end paper on to the board, use thefolder over a piece of clean paper, and rub it acrossin different directions. When the one side hasbeen pasted down, the board must on no account beclosed. The book is turned over without disturbingit, and the other side is pasted down in the sameway. Then the book is stood on end to dry, and asmall clip of cardboard is used to keep the boardsquite wide open (Fig. 91).
