The Sealed Knot Society is Europe’s largest re-enactment group. Boasting a membership of over 7000 it re-creates battles from the English Civil War passing the proceeds from the paying public onto charity. The battles are scripted but as the old military axiom says “No plan survives contact with the enemy” and the historically beaten side has on occasion won battles. The Living History group is another arm of the society that performs a similar function except on a much larger scale. Members of this group research their roles intensively and because of this they present a very vivid picture of life in the 17th century. With historically accurate tents they muster usually at weekend where all the Regiments, which make up the Society come together and form into their respective armies, Parliamentarian and Royalist re-fight the pitched battles of the era. Aside from the battles there are also living history camps, which aim to recreate as accurately as possible the everyday life of the period.
