As on the chalice, they occupy high chairs witha rounded back, most of them holding rolls, two extending their right highest pair is inscribed petrvs and [pa]v[lvs]. But the makers of these gilded glasses often gave new names to old designs,and Prof. Burkitt* rightly traces the type back to a ceiling in the Catacomb ofPetrus and Marcellinus. J.
