Conservative Party politician and British government minister Chris Grayling, pictured outside a community centre in Wythenshawe during by-election campaigning. Historically in Cheshire, in 1931 Wythenshawe was transferred to the City of Manchester, which had begun building a massive housing estate there in the 1920s to resolve the overpopulation and deprivation in its inner-city slums. A by-election was due to be held for the constituency of Wythenshawe and Sale East on February 13, 2014, following the death of sitting MP Paul Goggins.
