Germany, Saxony, Meissen, founded by King Henry I in 929: the Albrechtsburg, former home of the House of Wettin, was built between 1472 and 1525 in Late Gothic style. It housed the famous porcelain factory from 1710 to 1865 but is now home to an extensive museum. Here: the spiral staircase, adorning the facade, is regarded as a model of its kind.
