LYMPHOCYTE, TEM
Lymphocytes account for about 30% of the white cells (leukocytes) in the bloodstream. They play a crucial role in immune reactions. Lymphocytes measure about 7 micrometers in diameter. Several populations are described according to their function. B lymphocytes are specialized in antibody production. These cells produce immunoglobulins. T lymphocytes are divided into two subpopulations, one specialized in interleukin secretion and the other in killing cells infected by viruses. Here lymphocytes are viewed with a transmission electron microscope.
