PHILIPPINE SEA (March 11, 2019) Mineman 2nd Class Shay Severns prepares to deploy an expendable bithermal graph (EBG) from the fantail of the Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Pioneer (MCM 9) to detect mines as the ship conducts a mine hunting training exercise. Pioneer, part of Mine Countermeasure Squadron 7, is operating in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response platform for contingency operations.
