It is reported that a number of tests of the new controlhave been made during the past three months, and thesehave shown that it saves an average of 10 per cent in theconsumption of current compared with the standard re-sistance types. No resistance is used except at the firstcontrol point, and it has even been found that the car couldbe operated without resistance at all except for the factthat after the gears are somewhat worn the absence ofresistance at the time when all motors are thrown on to theline in series causes the car to jerk. The resistance hasbeen added to provide for back-lash in worn gears. Adetailed description of this new device will be given in alater issue of the Electric Railway Journal. Another novel feature of the car is the provision for WORK OF THE SIGNAL DEPARTMENT.
