Dun Troddan Iron Age broch tower, Glenelg, Scotland, UK, showing entrance passage & guard cell, inner court, hollow wall tied together by lintel slabs forming mural galleries & flights of voids above the stair entrance. The double drystone wall, surviving to over , encloses a circular court accessed by a strongly defended entrance passage. A mural cell leads off the entrance passage & another cell is entered from the court. Stairs lead up from this cell to first floor level & a second flight climbs higher. At first floor level a wooden balcony, verandah or floor was supported by a projecting stone ledge (scarcement) & a ring of wooden posts.
