At the death of his father the subjectpurchased the interest of the other heirs, and after his marriage, in 1867,he moved to the home farm in Jasper county and here he improved the landand erected good buildings on it, the country being principally raw prairieat that time. He planted groves which are now large and valuable. He was asuccessful farmer, a hard worker and a good manager. He took an interest. PETER P. PENTICO JASPER COUNTY, IOWA. Pentico proved his loyalty to the Union by enhsting at WiltonJunction, Iowa, in the first year of the war, September, 1861. in Company D,Eleventh Iowa Nolunteer Infantry, under Capt. A. I Sharpe,-to serve threeyears, and the regiment was assigned to the Iowa Brigade, McClearnandsdivision. Seventeenth Army Corps, Army of the Tennessee. He proved tobe a gallant soldier, participating in the following engagements: Shiloh,siege of Vicksburg, Corinth, Black River Bridge, Grand Gulf and was in the hospital at Xicksburg in 1863. He was in the Teiuiessee andMississippi campaigns and he was in the Grand Review in Pentico was transferred to Keokuk, Iowa, and rejoined his regiment atNew Albany, Indiana, and was discharged at Louisville, Kentucky, in 1863.
