TheCommissioners then located the seat of justiceat the house of John Baker, on the southwestquarter of Section 31, Township G North,Range 2 West, now known as Macomb Town-ship, and named the place Washington. Theirfinal act, before adjournment, was to appointEphraim Perkins, William McDonald andGeorge Dowell judges of election— the sameto be held at Washington (now Macomb) on :^%vr%. e •• ;. Upon the date mentioned the Commissionersmet at the residence of James Clarke andproceeded to divide the county into three mag-istrates districts, and provided for the electionof Justices of the Peace and Constables ineach district. These districts were made eightmiles wide, extending east and west the entirewidth of the county. No. 1 being the northerndivision. Xo. 2. the middle, and No. 3, thesouthern. An election was called for the First Districtat the house of James Vance, on the first Sat-urday in August, 1830, for two Justices of thePeace and two Constables: the judges ofelection being George Dcwell, William S. Mooreand William Garrett. At the same date, in theSecond District an election was held at theresidence of John Baker for four Justices andfour Constables, with Ellas McFadde
